Don't Let Trump Start
Nuclear War with North Korea
It’s crazy enough that U.S. nuclear weapons launch protocol requires the order to start a civilization-ending nuclear war from only one person, the President.
It’s absolutely insane when that one person is now Donald Trump…
The good news is, there’s something you can do about it.
Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) and Representative Ted Lieu (D-CA-33) have introduced identical bills that would check this unrestrained authority of the President to launch a nuclear weapon. The Restricting Use of Nuclear Weapons Act (S. 200 / H.R. 669) would prohibit the President from launching nuclear weapons without a Congressional declaration of war or in response to a nuclear attack.
This change to the nuclear launch protocol is decades overdue, but it has never been more important than now, given the provocative tweets from Trump. We need to build support for a no-first-use policy in Congress, and you can make that happen.
Please take action now to help us ensure that all members of Maryland's Congressional delegation co-sponsor this important legislation. Currently (Oct. 2, 2017), in Maryland, only Senator Chris Van Hollen and Representative Jamie Raskin are cosponsors. We want Senator Cardin and Maryland's other seven representatives to become cosponsors. Please do this:
Call Sen. Cardin's office and urge him to cosponsor S. 200, Restricting the Use of Nuclear Weapons. Sen. Cardin is the ranking Democrat on the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, so his cosponsorship is especially important: (202) 224-4524
Call the capitol switchboard and ask for your representative in Congress--(202) 224-3121. If you don't know who your representative is, click here. When you get the office, ask your representative to cosponsor H.R. 669. If your representative is Jamie Raskin, please thank him for his early cosponsorship.
